The Pretty Ugly

This is the story behind the business, the advocacy, and everything in between.

The Real Introduction

Most bios start with credentials. This one starts with truths.

I am Melody Pacheco and I have lived more lives in one than most people recognise on a professional profile. I am a business owner, a speaker, a founder, a mental health advocate, a survivor, and someone who spent a long time figuring out that all of those things are not in conflict. They are the same story told from different angles.

Where I Come From.

I grew up in a home where domestic violence was the background noise of daily life. Before the violence, there were years of illness kidney and bladder problems from age two to eleven, in and out of hospitals while I was still learning what the world was supposed to feel like.

By the time I was seven, the fighting had started. By sixteen, I made a decision that would define everything that came after it: I emancipated myself and left. That sounds like courage from the outside. From the inside, it felt like survival. And survival, I would learn, is only the beginning.

The Ugly Part.

I didn’t leave the damage behind when I left the house. I carried it into a decade of destructive choices, into relationships that mirrored the pain I had grown up in, into a break down I didn’t see coming and couldn’t stop. I began having thoughts of suicide. Not the kind that society recognizes immediately not a single dramatic moment, but the slow, quiet kind that lives in every self-destructive choice you make before you realize what you’re really doing. The drugs. The ten-year relationship with someone who was feeding my addiction and my pain. The complete erosion of my belief that I had any value in this world.

That was the Ugly. And for a long time, I didn’t have language for any of it.

The Revelation.

The shift came not in one moment but in a series of them small, quiet realizations that what I had been surviving had a name, and that the name mattered. The suicide happens long before the suicide. I had been demonstrating suicidal behavior for years without ever picking up a weapon. The self-destruction was the act. And once I saw it, I could not unsee it.

That revelation became Suicide Watch Global. Because I knew I was not alone in this. And I knew that if someone had shown up for me earlier with honesty, without judgment, with resources, community, and the simple message that I was not too broken to rebuild things might have looked very different.

The Pretty.

Here is what I know today: I am in an unconditionally loving relationship with myself. I give myself grace and unconditional love consistently.I have built a digital marketing company from zero DMP Social that serves clients across the United States. I have spoken at schools, universities, corporate events, and community gatherings. I have stood at a Harvard podium and looked out at a room full of people who needed to hear what I had to say.

I own my story. I own my healing. And I own my mission.

The Pretty is not that the Ugly went away. The Pretty is that I turned it into something. That is the whole point. Remember, pressure creates diamonds…

What Drives her.

At the core of everything Melody does the business, the advocacy, the speaking, the community is a single belief: that every person deserves to feel that their life has value. Not someday. Not after they’ve healed completely. Right now, in the middle of it. That belief is what built DMP Social. That belief is what built Suicide Watch Global. And that belief is what gets Melody on a plane, a stage, a podcast microphone over and over again.
